Collectif MAGMA's Timber Tower 'What the Stones Whisper' Rises in Lunano, Italy
In Lunano, Italy, a six-meter-tall wooden tower named What the Stones Whisper has been constructed by Collectif MAGMA for the Fe.M – Festival di Microarchitettura. Erected in just two weeks, this structure draws inspiration from Torre Lunano and the area's stone architecture. It consists of eight triangulated timber frames made from 50 × 60 mm pine battens and is adorned with ten layers of timber shingles that hang from jute ropes, producing an engaging interplay of light and sound. Two doors provide vistas of the surrounding hills and lead into an open interior that encourages upward gazing. The tower is supported by a shallow foundation and was built by a small group of amateur craftsmen, offering views of the Regional Park of Sasso Simone and Simoncello.
