Cold Culture opens Barcelona flagship by CuldeSac in 18th-century building
Cold Culture, a Madrid-born digital-native fashion brand founded in 2021, has opened its first physical flagship store in Barcelona's Ciutat Vella district. Designed by local studio CuldeSac, the 120-square-meter space occupies part of the Casa Joan d'Ortega, a residential building constructed in 1761 and expanded in the early 20th century by architect Marcel·lià Coquillat i Llofriu. The design concept, called 'Crafted Engineering', exposes the building's layered history—stripped walls with patches of plaster and exposed brick, vaulted ceilings with visible galvanized cable trays—while introducing custom furniture that reveals its own manufacturing process. Curved fiberglass racks show laminate strands and are bolted together with visible metal plates; cracked tempered glass jewelry cases reference the brand's name. A central counter is a sculptural steel piece with die-cut corners and black rivets. The store layout transitions from a neutral grey entry zone with microcement floors and bone-colored structures to a dramatic red room fully clad in glossy red vinyl padded panels, with a matching resin floor and a star-shaped skylight. Industrial ratchet straps suspend polished steel sheets as floating tables. CuldeSac is already working on a second Cold Culture store on Madrid's Calle Fuencarral, aiming to establish a consistent architectural style for the brand.
