Coinbase and OKX Launch Bonus Campaigns as MiCA Deadline Reshapes European Crypto Market

economy-finance · 2026-06-28

The July 1 MiCA regulatory deadline has triggered a user acquisition war among licensed crypto exchanges in Europe. Binance withdrew its MiCA license application with Greece's Hellenic Capital Market Commission on June 24, affecting users in France, Italy, Poland, and Spain. Only 210 of over 3,000 crypto firms received full MiCA authorization. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong offered sign-up bonuses to users in Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Sweden, and the UK, with a 5% transfer bonus for funds moved before July 13. OKX launched a deposit bonus campaign through July 13 for all 27 EU member states plus Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein, offering up to 8% deposit matching on transfers up to $500,000, secured through Malta Financial Services Authority. Kraken launched a €1 million prize draw for EEA customers, marketing its MiCA authorization from the Central Bank of Ireland. SwissBorg offers a 3% deposit match exclusively for transfers from non-MiCA exchanges. OKX Europe estimates around 80% of regional exchanges will shut down. ESMA has directed non-compliant firms to execute orderly asset transitions. OKX Europe has delisted USDT due to MiCA requirements. Binance will seek authorization in another EU member state.
