Claudy Jongstra Unveils Monumental Tapestry at Aliée Istanbul During Contemporary Istanbul
At Contemporary Istanbul, the Aliée hotel introduced "Landscape of Mercy," a seven-meter tapestry crafted by Dutch artist Claudy Jongstra. This artwork, commissioned specifically for the hotel, is now part of its permanent collection as part of its second Art Season. Situated at the historic Imperial Naval Shipyard of Tersane, which dates back to the Ottoman conquest in 1453, Aliée showcases Jongstra's commitment to regenerative agriculture, utilizing Drenthe Heath sheep and organic materials. The tapestry employs natural dyes that create a painterly effect. Jongstra stressed the importance of living in harmony with nature. Additionally, Aliée's Art Season features sculptures by Tony Cragg, pieces by Gregor Hildebrandt, and a presentation by Youri Cansell. Hatice Tamince Ülker emphasized the cultural significance of hospitality and honoring history.
