Claudia Casarino's 'Alterar el trayecto de la luz' at Galería Macchina

Claudia Casarino's first solo exhibition at the Escuela de Arte UC, 'Alterar el trayecto de la luz', is on view at Galería Macchina in Santiago, Chile, until September 11, 2026. The show features five works created between 2004 and 2025, including the installation 'Uniformes' (2008), which comprises thirty translucent black tulle dresses hanging from the ceiling, evoking the spectral presence of domestic workers. Casarino, born in Asunción, Paraguay in 1974, has worked with clothing for over two decades to address themes of absence, migration, and invisible labor. The exhibition also includes 'Después de vos' (2008), a photo-documented performance where the artist cleans a bar bathroom in Asunción, and 'PM/AM' (2024), a tulle embroidery depicting a woman in two states. 'Cosas que hacemos para que no sepan lo que hacemos' (2025) features nested tulle pockets, and 'Ámbar' (2025) presents layered yellow tulle dresses. The exhibition is part of the Programa Internacional de Artistas (PIA) of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, including a workshop and open conversation. Casarino's work uses tulle, a fabric associated with femininity and celebration, to critique social inequalities and the historical invisibility of women's domestic labor.
