Claire Oliver Gallery Showcases Three Puerto Rican Artists at Atlanta Art Fair

Harlem's Claire Oliver Gallery participated in the Atlanta Art Fair from October 1–4, presenting works by three Puerto Rican artists: Erica Morales, Dave Ortiz, and Carlos Betancourt. Gallerist Claire Oliver described the inclusion as part of an overdue shift in the art world. Morales, a Bronx-born painter based in Brooklyn, exhibited layered works on paper exploring family, friendship, and queer identity, with spray paint used to reclaim street tools for expressions of pride and joy. Ortiz, a veteran of East New York's graffiti scene and the first employee of Zoo York, founded the streetwear label Dave's Quality Meat and collaborated with Nike, Adidas, Vans, and Converse before transitioning to painting; his canvases feature heavy outlines and fragmented figures inspired by Greek antiquity. Betancourt, born in San Juan and a longtime figure in Miami's art scene, presented the broadest range, spanning painting, photography, and installation, with themes of memory and the natural world. His recent project, The Reef Star, an underwater sculpture for Miami's ReefLine, traveled to Nice in 2025. The gallery's debut at the fair underscores a growing recognition of Puerto Rican artists within the contemporary art market.
