Claire Lieberman Named Two Coats of Paint Resident Artist for October 2026
Claire Lieberman, a faculty member at Illinois State University, has been named the second Two Coats of Paint Resident Artist for October 2026, with her residency scheduled from October 18-23. An open studio event will take place on October 21 from 5–7 pm at Two Coats of Paint, located in Long Island City, NY. Appointments can be made through staff@twocoatsofpaint.com or on Instagram @clairelieberman. Sharon Butler announced this residency, highlighting Lieberman's unique creations that merge elements of childhood toys with themes of violence, such as guns and flowers. Her artistic exploration of military conflict draws parallels to the works of Harun Farocki and Wael Shawky. Ann Landi noted in Vasari 25 that Lieberman's sculptures strike a balance between beauty and peril. Recent showcases include the Martin Art Gallery and Massey Klein Gallery, with future appearances in New American Paintings #185 and The Creative Process.
