CIVILAN brings hospitality-inspired design to Bard College dorm

CIVILAN, a firm recognized among AN Interior's Top 50 architects and designers, has completed the interiors for Bard College's North Campus Residence. The 134,360-square-foot building, designed by KPF, includes a 20,000-square-foot Head House and accommodates over 400 students. The interiors draw inspiration from modernist architects Marcel Breuer, Mies van der Rohe, and Le Corbusier, who designed student dorms as campus emblems. The design also reflects Bard's ethos of fostering artistic talent, a legacy that attracted creatives like filmmaker Gia Coppola and comedian Chevy Chase as residents. The result departs from typical college dorm aesthetics, integrating study and learning spaces with residential units.
