Ciarán McGuigan: From Orior Furniture to The Malin Coworking

Ciarán McGuigan, creative director of Irish luxury furniture brand Orior, has expanded into hospitality with The Malin, a members-only coworking network. Growing up on the factory floor of Orior, founded by his parents in 1979, McGuigan gained an intimate understanding of craft. After a brief professional football career and a film degree from SCAD, he returned to lead Orior. The Malin, born from the family ethos of making time for others, now has nearly 20 locations across the US, with eight in New York. McGuigan emphasizes the importance of skilled makers, many with Orior since its start, and the use of Irish materials like Connemara marble, Orior Rouge, and limestone. His design process often starts with materials and conversations with makers, focusing on simplicity and craft. The Malin spaces, designed with residential-style furnishings and integrated technology, aim to inspire ambitious professionals. McGuigan's inspiration comes from his team, including craftspeople in Ireland and leadership in New York.
