Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' Sets Digital Release Date After Record Box Office

Christopher Nolan's grand adaptation of 'The Odyssey' by Homer is set to debut on digital streaming on Tuesday, Nov. 17, after an unprecedented run in theaters. Universal Pictures revealed on Thursday that the film has achieved the status of the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever, amassing $1.352 billion globally, eclipsing the former record of 'Deadpool & Wolverine' ($1.338 billion in 2024). During its opening weekend from July 17-19, it generated nearly $124 million across 3,919 North American theaters and maintained the top box office position for two weekends until 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' premiered on July 31. The digital version will be available for purchase and rental on platforms like Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video, and YouTube Movies & TV, coinciding with the release of physical media (4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD). Starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, and Tom Holland as Telemachus, the film features a star-studded cast including Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and Lupita Nyong'o. It has garnered critical praise, boasting a 94% 'fresh' score on Rotten Tomatoes from 500 reviews and a 97% audience score on the Popcornmeter from over 25,000 ratings. As of Friday, it remains in 3,091 North American theaters.
