Chiara Camoni unveils tarot-inspired sculpture at Accademia Carrara in Bergamo

Chiara Camoni, the artist representing the Italian Pavilion at the ongoing Venice Biennale, has installed a new ceramic work titled "La Forza" in the PwC Garden of the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo. The piece inaugurates "FIGURE NEL PAESAGGIO," a three-year contemporary sculpture project curated by Maria Luisa Pacelli and Elena Volpato. Inspired by the Strength card (Arcanum XI) of the tarot, Camoni's sculpture depicts a woman and a lioness standing calmly side by side, facing the same direction, rather than the traditional struggle between them. The figures are modeled in black clay using the coil technique, with a rough surface that evokes a primal energy. Camoni stated that as she worked, the hand and mouth of the figures became "the same matter, blooming and sizzling at the same time." The project will continue in 2027 with Paolo Icaro and in 2028 with Alessandro Pessoli, alongside the return of the restored 17th-century sculptures "Mars and Minerva" by Giacomo Carrara. The initiative aims to activate the museum's public gardens as a space for contemporary sculpture.
