Charlie Firth's 3D-Printed Lamps Blend Memphis Geometry with Digital Fabrication

Charlie Firth, a product and furniture designer hailing from South West Wales, has introduced a series of 3D-printed table lamps named 'Colorful Rebellion,' drawing inspiration from the Memphis movement. These lamps incorporate geometric forms, vibrant hues, and intricate patterns. Firth begins his creative process with flat sketches, which evolve into modular 3D models for digital evaluation. The 3D printing technique leaves visible layer lines and textures that influence how light interacts with the lamps. Notably, the 'Memphis Is Back' lamp reveals a cross-hatched infill pattern when illuminated, while the 'Hatched' lamp takes cues from this design element. Firth's transition to bold colors came after spending a year in a neutral-toned apartment during the COVID-19 lockdown. The project was submitted to designboom and edited by Christina Vergopoulou.
