Charlap Hyman & Herrero designs retro-futuristic LA office for aerospace manufacturer

Charlap Hyman & Herrero has completed a retro-futuristic office for an aerospace manufacturer in Los Angeles, California. The design features custom stainless steel workstations arranged in a herringbone pattern across a main floor and mezzanine. The studio collaborated with local firm SEED Design and Build on the metal elements, including capsule-like phone booths lined with felt and oval port windows. Warm carpeting, subtle lighting, and drapery temper the hard lines of metal and exposed concrete. The space evokes mid-century corporate interiors like IBM's. Plants from comedian Eric Wareheim's Serpentine collection add otherworldly touches. The office includes a lounge with a Pool Table by the studio, a kitchen, and executive offices furnished with a rare Malibu coffee table by Cini Boeri for Arflex. Principal Andre Herrero described the lighting as 'sci-fi,' likening it to a space station's energy source. The studio, founded by Herrero and Adam Charlap Hyman, has offices in New York, Los Angeles, and Mexico City.
