Charis Judith's 'We Are Being Carried Somewhere' Opens in Berlin Studio

Charis Judith (Charis Judith Smith) presents 'We Are Being Carried Somewhere', a solo studio exhibition in Berlin, on view June 12–13, 2026. The show features four marble sculptures, two wall-mounted bronze pieces, and a glass head, all created through a slow, ritualistic process using Carrara marble from the Fantiscritti quarries in Miseglia, Italy—the same source as Michelangelo's David. Judith trained in Pietrasanta under American artisan Kyle Smith, learning Old Master techniques. The works are informed by dreams and the philosophy of Edmund Husserl, exploring the gap between perception and understanding. A feature text by journalist David Sharp accompanies the exhibition, with photography by Omri Livne. The artist describes her outdoor studio in Berlin's Schöneberg district as a natural stage where she circles the stone meditatively before carving. The exhibition includes the 2024 piece 'Seed', a polished marble form meant to be touched. Judith's practice also draws on her Australian youth in a performing arts group, five years living with the Ngarluma People in Pilbara, and her interest in religious symbolism and birds as messengers.
