Chagall Lithographs at Clairefontaine Chapel

The Chapelle de Clairefontaine, built in 1959 in the Yvelines region, closed in 1996 and lay dormant for twenty years in the Rambouillet forest. Parisian gallerist Baudoin Lebon, a specialist in modern photography, discovered the chapel fifty kilometers from Paris and fell in love with it, deciding to revive it. The chapel now hosts an exhibition featuring four major suites of lithographs by Marc Chagall: Daphnis and Chloé, The Book of Exodus, The Odyssey, and The Tempest. These works, described as transforming color into light, are presented alongside contemporary artists who explore the relationship between text and image in printmaking since the 1950s. The exhibition runs until September 13, 2026, at 12 impasse de l'Abbaye, Clairefontaine-en-Yvelines, open Saturdays and Sundays from 2-6 PM.
