CFGNY’s ‘CFG—20260717’ Merges Video Art History with Fashion in Brooklyn

On July 17, 2026, CFGNY, an artist collective, launched its fifth fashion show called 'CFG—20260717' in a Brooklyn parking lot, despite the gloomy weather. This event took place just after the Air Quality Index had spiked to between 200 and 300. The multimedia runway, curated by the Kitchen and Amant, featured over 30 designs inspired by various artists, including Joan Jonas’s 1972 work 'Vertical Roll' and others like Nam June Paik and the Vasulkas. Core members Daniel Chew, Ten Izu, and Tin Nguyen spoke at the event, with Tin referencing the 1967 Sony Portapak. Models, including artist Diane Severin Nguyen, used iPhones to stream their perspectives. The show was produced with Avena Gallagher and Elliot Reed, and notable attendees included Kathy Halbreich and Stuart Comer. CFGNY’s work examines identity, and the performance ended with Tin sharing a video of a moped ride in Vietnam, highlighting their collaboration with local tailors.
