CFGNY Marks 10 Years With Video-Inspired Fashion Show at Amant
On Friday night, the Asian-American collective CFGNY (Concept Foreign Garments New York) marked its 10th anniversary with a conceptual fashion show held at Amant in Brooklyn. Established in 2016 by Daniel Chew, Ten Izu, and Tin Nguyen, the collective delves into the notion of 'vaguely Asian' identity through the lens of art and fashion. The event, named CFG-20260717, drew inspiration from the history of video technology, particularly the Portapak's introduction from Asia and its influence on New York's video art landscape. Curator Angelique Rosales Salgado presented a lecture on video history, while 35 participants from various creative fields showcased collaged garments crafted from materials sourced in Vietnam and tailored in Ho Chi Minh City. Notable attendees included A Magazine editor Blake Abbie and Ken Leung from HBO's Industry. CFGNY's work is currently featured in the Whitney Biennial and The Met's Costume Institute exhibition.
