CF Møller Converts 1888 Psychiatric Hospital in Middelfart into Mind Museum

architecture-design · 2026-10-01

CF Møller has finalized the Mind Museum in Middelfart, located on the Danish island of Funen, within a former psychiatric hospital established in 1888. This initiative maintains the building's original architecture while enhancing its functionality to meet contemporary standards. The museum highlights Denmark's psychiatric history and the hospital's narrative, which remained operational until 1999. The ground level showcases historical design for exhibitions related to the building's legacy, whereas the upper floor incorporates modern finishes that tackle current psychiatric challenges. Visitors access the museum through a refurbished main entrance, which also features a café, meeting areas, and a basement for community events connected to future MindWalk tunnels. Additionally, a sculpture garden has been introduced. Founded in 1924, CF Møller has also worked on a psychiatric clinic in Finland and Stockholm’s Avicii Arena.
