Centre Pompidou Hanwha Opens in Seoul with Cubism Exhibition

In June 2026, the Centre Pompidou Hanwha, a brand-new art museum in Seoul, launched with its first exhibition titled 'The Cubists: Inventing Modern Vision.' This museum is a collaboration between the Hanwha Foundation of Culture and Paris's Centre Pompidou, showcasing the French institution's artistic heritage in South Korea. French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte designed the museum, which is housed in a refurbished four-story annex of the 63 Building in Seoul. The inaugural exhibition features 112 pieces from 54 artists, highlighting the evolution of Cubism from its roots around 1907 to its global spread in the 1920s, including works by notable figures such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. A special segment, 'KOREA FOCUS: A Dream Map Toward the Modern Avant-Garde,' explores the influence of Cubism in Korea, showcasing artists like Kim Whanki and Yoo Youngkuk. This exhibition will be on display until October 4, 2026, at 63 Building, 50 63-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, South Korea.
