Center for Craft Opens 2026 Archive Fellowship for Underrepresented Craft Histories

Applications for the Craft Archive Fellowship at the Center for Craft are open until May 20, 2026. This initiative provides $5,000 grants to four to six researchers each year, aimed at exploring marginalized narratives within American craft. The fellowships fund twelve-month archival endeavors starting in September 2026, with research conducted at archives chosen by the fellows. Scholars, independent researchers, and artist-researchers at any career stage eligible to receive taxable U.S. income can apply. Proposals should highlight underrepresented viewpoints, including feminist, queer, Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian American, and Pacific Islander histories. A panel of experts will assess applications based on the strength of proposals, their contribution to overlooked stories, and methodological soundness. Selected fellows will engage in a virtual public program hosted by the Center for Craft and share their findings in Hyperallergic. Applications must include a project proposal, timeline, budget, and supporting documents submitted through SlideRoom, with an optional virtual information session offered during the application window.
