Céleste Boursier-Mougenot's Clinamen (v.11) at Park Avenue Armory

Three pools, each with 800 porcelain vessels and over 10,000 gallons of water, create a meditative soundscape at the Park Avenue Armory. French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot's latest installation, clinamen (v.11), uses motors to generate contact-clinks that fill the vast space. The work is on view through August 2. Boursier-Mougenot first developed the clinamen concept nearly 30 years ago, creating orchestrated environments that expand the musical score. Previous iterations appeared at Bourse de Commerce in Paris, National Gallery Victoria in Australia, and Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. The raised wooden structure, lighting, and varied sonic experiences encourage visitors to stay and reflect. The artist emphasizes the contrast with the Armory's scale and darkness, stating he has erased all noise, leaving only the illusion of black velvet.
