CCS Bard Presents Three Solo Shows on Abstraction by Uman, Betty Parsons, Marilou Schultz
This summer, the Hessel Museum of Art at Bard College's Center for Curatorial Studies in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, presents three solo exhibitions, each highlighting a woman artist who challenges the norms of abstraction and color. Featured artists include Uman (b. 1980), a Somali-born, Kenyan-raised painter; Betty Parsons (1900-1982), a renowned mid-century gallerist and artist; and Marilou Schultz (b. 1954), a fourth-generation Diné weaver. Schultz's show, "Replica of a Chip: The Weaving Technology of Marilou Schultz," runs through November 29 and showcases her weaving inspired by computer chips, including a 1994 Intel commission. Uman's "In Between," available until November 29, 2026, displays over 100 works, while "Betty Parsons, an Artist with a Gallery" (through October 18, 2026) is the first significant retrospective of Parsons' art and her gallery's pivotal role in Abstract Expressionism.
