She stated that children of famous parents did not choose their circumstances, saying, "These kids didn't ask to be born into this." Zeta-Jones is married to Michael Douglas, son of Kirk Douglas, and their two children, Dylan and Carys, are pursuing careers in entertainment. Dylan is focusing on acting, while Carys is interested in directing. Zeta-Jones described them as "plugging away" and emphasized the importance of following one's dreams and passion. She noted the difficulty they face in forging their own paths, but added that they love their work and are talented. She also mentioned that she and Michael would be the first to suggest alternative careers if their children were not good.
