Case Maclaim Mounts Giant Eye on 11th-Century Keep at Château de Belcastel

In 2021, Case Maclaim produced a notable printed artwork titled "Our Insides Showing" for the LEGEND exhibition at the Château de Belcastel in southern France. This massive eye was visible from the nearby village. Instead of painting on the castle itself, Maclaim chose to attach a printed image to its exterior, highlighting the castle's key feature while keeping the restored stone intact. The château's historical use as a lookout inspired thoughts on modern surveillance. During the pandemic, Maclaim humorously reflected on the decision to display such a large piece, thanking Chris and Heidi. Curated by Christopher Courtney and Heidi Leigh, the exhibition also included another work in the upper garden, but the keep's portrait particularly engaged the surrounding village. Fernand Pouillon purchased the château in 1974, spending eight years restoring it while maintaining its historical integrity. Maclaim's artwork marked a temporary yet significant moment, as the keep observed Belcastel in 2021.
