Casa Verde: A Modern Take on Portugal's Striped Beach Houses

architecture-design · 2026-08-26

Designed by M2 Senos Arquitectos, the Casa Verde is a 353 m² residence located in Gafanha da Encarnação, Portugal, near the famous Costa Nova do Prado beach. The project, completed in 2025, was curated by Susanna Moreira and photographed by Ivo Tavaros Studio. The architects responsible are Ricardo Senos and Sofia Senos, with construction by Licínio Martins Lourenço, Lda, and engineering by Eng.º Pedro Festas. The house draws inspiration from the traditional 'palheiros'—colorful striped houses that originally served as storage for fishing activities and have become iconic summer homes. The design incorporates materials and products from suppliers such as Geberit, CIN, Carpintaria Venezolana Portuguesa, Lda., ENAT, Fixocaleira, Lda, and Samagaio & Capão. The Casa Verde represents a contemporary interpretation of this regional architectural heritage, blending modern living with the coastal vernacular.
