Casa Tróia 37: A Dune-Integrated Residential Retreat by Fragmentos

Casa Tróia 37, a private residence designed by the architecture firm Fragmentos, is situated on one of the most dune-proximate plots in Tróia, Portugal. The project, completed in 2025, covers 342 square meters and features a series of staggered, overlapping volumes oriented eastward toward the sea and the silhouette of the Serra da Arrábida across the estuary. The design deliberately steps back from the shoreline, responding to the preexisting conditions of dune vegetation, wind, and open horizon rather than treating them as obstacles. The commission called for a single-family retreat that integrates seamlessly into its exceptional site without competing with it. The project team includes lead architect Fernando Flora, principal architect Duarte Pinto-Coelho, with engineering and consulting by Fragmentos and 360 Engenharia, landscape architecture by Greengest and Ana Videira, project management by FFC Gestão de projetos imobiliários, LDA, and general contracting by ECM Engenharia e Construção, LDA.
