Casa Son Llodrà: Bastidas Architecture's Semi-Buried House Blends into Mediterranean Hillside

architecture-design · 2026-09-29

Bastidas Architecture designed Casa Son Llodrà, a 680 m² house completed in 2023 on a Mediterranean hilltop, where low vegetation and the horizon shape the setting. The project's central move is to vanish: the dwelling is semi-buried and topped with a layer of native vegetation, turning the architecture into a continuation of the topography. Local earth and plants do more than conceal the structure — they also cool and insulate it, supporting a way of living grounded in discretion and respect for the landscape. Wolfgang Wagner served as team leader, with Ignasi Fuster on the technical team. Iona Group handled engineering and consulting, and Melchor Mascaro was the general contractor. Medsea Studio photographed the project, which was curated by Valentina Díaz. Suppliers included Font Barcelona for electrical wiring devices, Kerakoll Biocalce for façades, Nadal Mobiliari for wooden carpentry, and a Ytong bricks structural system. The house falls under the categories Landscape and Architecture, and Houses.
