Casa Marinho da Serra: Bamboo Architecture in Minas Gerais

Casa Marinho da Serra, designed by Vazio S/A in the Sierra da Moeda, Minas Gerais, uses bamboo latticework as a central environmental and constructive strategy. The house, built for a retired cook who worked four decades in Belo Horizonte, was funded by her former employers. Bamboo, abundant locally, was treated on-site with borax and boric acid for durability. The 110 m² home includes two bedrooms, a suite, service area, wood stove, and balcony, oriented north toward a valley. Local labor from the Marinho da Serra district was employed. The project demonstrates how material economy and local resources can create architecture deeply connected to its context.
