Casa Malaparte sofa reissued by designer's heir
Tommaso Rositani Suckert, the youngest heir of writer Curzio Malaparte, is reproducing the iconic sofa from Casa Malaparte through his company Malaparte Design, founded in 2019. The sofa, originally upholstered in light leather and linen, was famously dyed blue for Jean-Luc Godard's 1963 film "Le Mépris" (Contempt), starring Brigitte Bardot. The reissue comes in two versions: an identical numbered edition in light linen and leather, and a limited edition of 30 with blue covers, developed with manufacturer Philippe Pérès. Production takes 16 weeks; price on request. Casa Malaparte was built in 1940 on Capri's Punta Massullo promontory, designed by rationalist architect Adalberto Libera but claimed by Malaparte as his "Casa come me." After Malaparte's death in 1957, the house was bequeathed to the People's Republic of China, later reclaimed by his heirs after a legal battle. The sofa's revival was featured in Beaux Arts Magazine's July 2026 double issue.
