Casa en Hino by Shigeo Takizawa Architects: A 1960s Hillside Residence

Shigeo Takizawa Architects has completed Casa en Hino, a 102 m² residence located in a quiet residential neighborhood developed in the Tama hills during the 1960s. The house is designed for a couple and their son, situated on a plot formed by cutting into a north-facing slope. The surrounding landscape is characterized by retaining walls and perimeter fences, remnants of the area's history of creating level land for habitation. The project benefits from generous plots compared to central Tokyo, with a floor area ratio of 40%, allowing for a common layout among neighboring homes: large south-facing gardens and aligned facades. The main architect is Shigeo Takizawa, with structural engineering by yAt Structural Design Office and construction by Yoshida Builders. The project was curated by Miwa Negoro and photographed by Makoto Yoshida. Suppliers include Création Baumann, Forbo, KYOEI LUMBER INC., MAX KENZO ROOFING, and Osmo.
