Casa Diego del Río: Calm as Interior Language in Mexico City

The 88th edition of Glocal Design Magazine focuses on sustainability as a system redefining contemporary architectural practice, covering projects, interviews, and key voices on climate, territory, materials, and social responsibility. Casa Diego del Río, designed by Pablo Gamboa of The Indigo Interior, is a residential project in Lomas de Chapultepec, Mexico City, that prioritizes calm, containment, and material precision. The house is conceived as an intimate, sensory space for Diego del Río, a figure linked to event and experience creation, translating a dynamic professional life into a serene domestic environment. The design uses a sober palette of oak wood, neutral textiles, and subtle textures to create a warm, sophisticated language. Custom furniture extends the space naturally, with each piece responding to specific proportions and uses. A marble-and-wood bar anchors the social area, functioning as a flexible meeting point, secondary dining area, and transition between the main living room and family room. The project emphasizes interior design as containment and sensitivity, with close collaboration between client and designer enabling a dialogic creative process that resulted in a timeless, habitable environment.
