Casa Caloz Bramois by R2A Architectes Challenges Suburban Housing Typology

In Bramois, on the outskirts of Sion, Switzerland, the architectural firm R2A Architectes has completed Casa Caloz, a two-family dwelling that deliberately subverts the standard double-unit housing type prevalent in low-density development zones. The project contrasts the typical cubic block with an 'open' structural system, employing a dense core to free up the periphery, thereby exploring two opposing yet complementary ways of engaging with the terrain: immersion and cantilever.
