Carsten Höller Turns UCCA into a Laboratory of Doubt

From July 14, 2026, to January 31, 2027, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing will host 'Carsten Höller: Two,' an exhibition by Belgian artist Carsten Höller, who holds a doctorate in agricultural science from the University of Kiel. Curated by UCCA Director Philip Tinari, the show reimagines the venue as a 'Laboratory of Doubt,' showcasing immersive installations, perceptual experiments, and new projects tailored to Beijing. Höller’s work, which merges scientific accuracy with playful theatricality, employs slides, goggles, and altered environments to challenge perception. His expertise in insect scent communication shapes his exploration of behavior and sensory systems. The exhibition features both established works and new creations, prompting visitors to reflect on concepts of time, space, and social interactions. Höller has previously displayed his art at Tate Modern, New Museum, Hamburger Bahnhof, Hayward Gallery, and Fondazione Prada, and he resides in Stockholm, Ghana, and Tuscany.
