Carsten Höller's 'Two' at UCCA Beijing: One Exhibition, Two Randomly Assigned Realities

Carsten Höller's first institutional solo exhibition in China, 'Two,' opened at UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing on July 14, 2026, and runs until January 31, 2027. Upon entry, visitors are randomly assigned one of two entrances leading to nearly identical routes rendered in either full color or black and white. The exhibition features mirrored spaces, paired installations, and alternative outcomes that challenge the notion of a single objective reality. New commissions include 'Tilted Carousels,' which rotate slowly to test patience, and 'Sliding Doors Square,' an endlessly stretching mirrored corridor. 'Two Roaming Beds' allows visitors to spend the night as robotic beds wander through the galleries. 'Pill Clock' dispenses capsules every three seconds. Höller, formerly an agricultural scientist, frames the exhibition as a 'Laboratory of Doubt,' using play to question certainty. The show is curated by Philip Tinari with assistant curator Jiashu Zou.
