Caro and Capper sculptures hidden in Oxfordshire fields

Heavy Metal, an outdoor exhibition at Albion Barn and Fields in south Oxfordshire, pairs sculptures by Anthony Caro (d. 2013) and James Capper. The free show, open Thursdays and Fridays by booking, features works made from salvaged steel and machinery parts. Caro pieces include Erl King (a ship's anchor resembling a medieval helmet), Star Flight (galvanised steel), and Slow Passage (a painted cattle crush). Capper's IRIS uses a repurposed industrial grabber that opens like a flower petal; another work in a converted tractor barn features nipping blades on a girder. The exhibition was jointly curated by Michael Hue-Williams, director and owner of Albion Barn, and his daughter Lucca Hue-Williams, director of Albion Jeune in London. Capper once interviewed as a welder for Caro but was encouraged to pursue his own work; he now works in a studio on a former military airfield in Wiltshire. The woods were planted by Michael's father, Giles Hue-Williams, who died from a bee sting. No gift shop or cafe; a nearby thatched pub benefits. Not suitable for under-12s.
