Carla Accardi Gets First UK Institutional Exhibitions at Estorick Collection and Compton Verney in 2027

The Estorick Collection in London and Compton Verney in Warwickshire will jointly host the first UK institutional exhibitions dedicated to Italian artist Carla Accardi from January to June 2027. The simultaneous shows, curated by Stella Bottai (Estorick) and Kiera Blakey (Compton Verney), will trace Accardi's career from the late 1940s, featuring loans and archival material. Accardi, born in Trapani in 1924, was the only woman among the founding members of the Forma 1 collective in 1947 and later co-founded the feminist group Rivolta Femminile with Carla Lonzi. The exhibitions highlight her use of Sicofoil, a transparent industrial plastic, and her contributions to abstraction and feminist art. The project is supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture's Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity under the Italian Council program (14th edition, 2025).
