Candalepas Associates Reimagines 1850s Fisherman's Cottage in Watsons Bay

Candalepas Associates transformed a derelict 1850s fisherman's weatherboard cottage in Watsons Bay, Australia, into a contemporary permanent residence. Completed in 2020, the project was led by Design Director Angelo Candalepas with Principal Jason Williams. Associates Marty Bowen and Rachel Yabsley, along with Senior Associate Jeremy Loblay, contributed to the design. Builder Jason Boyle Constructions executed the construction, while structural input came from Raphael Balas. Civil and stormwater engineering was handled by EWFW & Northrop, with environmental considerations addressed by JK. The historical significance of the surrounding area informed the architectural approach. Photographer Rory Gardiner documented the completed Lee House, which was curated by Miwa Negoro. The redesign preserves the cottage's traditional character while updating it for modern living.
