Canadian Instrumental Rock Duo Angine de Poitrine Gains Viral Fame and Announces European Tour

Angine de Poitrine, a two-member Canadian instrumental rock band, has experienced a rapid rise from obscurity to significant social media popularity, leading to an extensive European tour. The duo, consisting of guitarist Khn and drummer Klek, formed in 2019 in Saguenay, Quebec. They perform in a style closely aligned with math rock, characterized by complex rhythms and arrangements, presented in an accessible and theatrical manner. Their distinctive visual identity includes black-and-white polka-dot costumes and long-nosed masks, drawing inspiration from Dadaism and classic science fiction cinema like Fritz Lang's Metropolis. A key moment in their ascent was a performance at the U.S. radio station KEXP, the video of which garnered over 6 million views on YouTube. This exposure boosted their Instagram following to nearly half a million. Their second album, Vol. II, is scheduled for release on April 3. The band has been added to several international music festival lineups, with a European tour planned for May featuring 15 dates, including a stop in Rovereto, Italy, followed by an additional 21 shows between August and November. Despite their recent fame, the members have maintained anonymity as part of their artistic project. Their musical influences range from 1970s English progressive rock band Gentle Giant to contemporary pop artists like Dua Lipa, as well as avant-garde jazz and psychedelic rock. The duo's use of microtonal instruments and loop stations creates a rich, dissonant sound that approximates a trio. Their label describes them as a 'rock-Dadaist-Pythagorean-cubist' band.
