Camille Vivier's First Retrospective at Maison Européenne de la Photographie

The Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris is hosting the first retrospective of photographer Camille Vivier, on view from June 10 to September 13, 2026. Curated by Victoria Aresheva, the exhibition brings together around ten series and nearly a hundred photographs, spanning Vivier's 25-year career. Born in 1977, Vivier studied at the École supérieure d'art de Grenoble and Saint Martins School in London, and began her career in the late 1990s as an assistant at Purple magazine, which introduced her to the fashion world. She has since maintained a dual career, creating commissioned work for magazines such as i-D, Dazed & Confused, and The New Yorker, as well as for fashion houses like Margiela, Cartier, and Hermès, while also pursuing a personal artistic practice. Her work often blurs the line between the animate and the inanimate, featuring bodybuilders like Sophie, Tjiki, and Deborah, whose statuesque forms question the limits of femininity. She also photographs objects such as puppets and voodoo candles as if they were alive, and her residency with H.R. Giger (1940–2014), the designer of the Alien creature, influenced her biomorphic aesthetic. The resulting images are sensual, muted, and sometimes saturated with color, imbued with a quiet strangeness. The exhibition is held at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, located at 5/7 Rue de Fourcy, 75004 Paris.
