Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Launches Friday, Betting on GTA 6 Halo Effect

Modern Warfare 4 arrives on Friday, 23 October 2026, with publisher Activision positioning it as a corrective to a bruising 2025. Last year's Black Ops 7 fell to seventh in US sales charts per analytics firm Circana and eighth in the UK, with its inclusion on Xbox Game Pass at launch and competition from Battlefield 6 and Embark's Arc Raiders cited as pressures. Chief marketing officer Tyler Bahl concedes the series "missed expectations" and says players can now disable controversial cartoon-inspired cosmetic skins. The campaign depicts a North Korean invasion of South Korea, a premise that drew mixed reactions; promotional replicas of South Korean streets were built in Shoreditch, London, and downtown LA. Activision enlisted Obsession actor Inde Navaratte at Fanatics Fest in July, a Baller League sponsorship and a Mr Beast showcase of the DMZ mode. Bahl frames GTA 6, out weeks later on PlayStation 5 and Xbox only, as an "opportunity" to draw players back. Barry Sloane returns as Capt John Price in what Activision calls the character's "epic conclusion", joined by María Elisa Camargo as Valeria Garza and Mads Mikkelsen as The Archer. UK price is about £70.
