C3A in Córdoba Examines Tarantism and Southern Folklore in New Group Show

In Córdoba, the Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía (C3A) is showcasing a group exhibition titled La picadura de la tarántula: sur y folclore, curated by Lluís Alexandre Casanovas Blanco. This exhibition delves into the critical aspects of folklore, drawing on the research of Italian anthropologist Ernesto de Martino. A focal point of the exhibition is tarantism, a southern Italian ritual characterized by trance states manifested through music and dance. De Martino's 1961 work, La terra del rimorso, links these experiences to the political realities of peasant communities. The display includes historical documents, films by Cecilia Mangini and Gianfranco Mingozzi, along with Andalusian cinema from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Contemporary artists such as María Alcaide, María Rosa Aránega, Mateo Chica, and Manuel Zapata Vázquez present new pieces. The exhibition is open until 28 March 2027.
