Bus Crash in Cabo Verde Kills at Least 25, Mostly Children

According to RCV, a public radio network, a tragic bus accident on Cabo Verde's Fogo Island resulted in the deaths of at least 25 individuals, primarily children and teenagers. The incident took place on Saturday when the bus, which was transporting 32 passengers, lost control and fell into a steep ravine while returning to Sao Filipe from an outing to the Cha das Caldeiras village within the Pico do Fogo volcanic crater. Jose Canuto, the civil protection chief for Sao Filipe, reported that several passengers sustained serious injuries. Among the deceased was the bus driver, who had organized this annual trip as a gift for his students. Emergency responders worked overnight to free victims from the wreckage in a challenging location. Such accidents are uncommon in the archipelago, known for its well-maintained roads.
