BURR wraps Madrid apartment in yellow storage walls with pink spiral staircase

Spanish architecture studio BURR has completed AZ06, a renovation of an existing apartment in Madrid for a family of five. The project embraces the building's central core—staircase, elevators, and courtyard—by organizing the home around it. Rather than a single corridor, rooms are interconnected with multiple entrances and exits, allowing cyclical movement. A large built-in furniture wall made of varnished MDF separates public and private areas, integrating storage, installations, and access to bathrooms. Yellow lacquer marks operative elements like kitchens, sliding doors, and hidden entrances. A hidden study opens from the family library and connects to the main bedroom. A suspended metal spiral staircase, wrapped in pink lacquered sheet metal and lined with padded textile panels, leads to an isolated upper room.
