Bryan Dubreuiel Discusses Quiet Disruptions Series and Five Decades of Abstract Expressionism
Texas-based painter Bryan Dubreuiel has spent more than five decades developing a visual language that sets bold forms and architectural lines against gestural marks, layered textures and interrupted shapes. His Quiet Disruptions series, presented on Singulart, is where that tension is currently being worked out. Dubreuiel names "Below the Surface" as the canvas that best captures his present position, describing an intentional balance between expressive marks and quieter passages of restraint, with room left for the unexpected. A U.S. Navy veteran with over 20 years of service, he credits military experience with shaping his sense of discipline, structure, adaptability and teamwork, though he stresses the paintings are not about military life. Travel abroad and close encounters with old masters deepened his appreciation for what he calls a God-given gift. Living and working in Texas has drawn him toward earthy palettes, weathered surfaces and the contrast between open space and solid structure, alongside broader American themes of history, individuality, resilience and change. He is now extending the series toward compositions that combine abstraction with silhouette imagery. Other works on his Singulart profile include "Archie," "Where Faith Begins" and "Split Event."
