Brücke-Museum Expansion Design Competition Winners Announced

An extension for the Brücke-Museum in Berlin is on the horizon, following a design competition won by Barkow Leibinger architects and Fabulism. The runners-up included Heneghan Peng, Juca Landschaft und Architektur, and Adb Büro für Architektur, Denkmalpflege und Bauforschung Steffen Obermann, who secured second place. Bächlemeid Architekten Stadtplaner and Planorama Landschaftsarchitektur took third. This extension, aimed at providing additional space for collections and functions, must remain lower than the original 1967 structure by Werner Düttmann, which is protected as a historical site. Nearly 26 million euros have been earmarked for the project as part of Berlin's investment initiative. The museum was established after Karl Schmidt-Rottluff's estate was donated to the city.
