Brooke Eby, who turned her amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis into a platform for advocacy and dark humor, died yesterday at age 37. She was diagnosed at 33, far younger than the average ALS patient. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, progressively erodes movement, speech, and breathing while leaving the mind intact; about 90% of cases are sporadic with no family history. Eby's path began with a slight limp and years of diagnostic uncertainty. Under the handle @limpbroozkit on TikTok and Instagram, she built a following by sharing raw, often comedic takes on her illness. Her first viral video featured her chugging the bitter medication Relyvrio through a beer bong, dubbed the 'Relyvrio Challenge' in a nod to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. She also launched ALStogether, an online community for ALS patients, and collaborated with Silverts on a line of stylish adaptive clothing. At a fundraiser, she joked that if a Kardashian had ALS, 'the Kardashian Curse would be turned into the Kardashian Cure.' Her social media chronicled her decline: learning to use a wheelchair, voice changes, and debating a feeding tube.
