Brigitte Tübke-Schellenberger, Widow of Painter Werner Tübke, Dies at 95

Brigitte Tübke-Schellenberger, the widow of the prominent East German painter Werner Tübke (1929–2004), died on September 1 at the age of 95. The Galerie Schwind announced her death, citing the family. Tübke-Schellenberger, a former lawyer, married Tübke in 1976 in Bad Frankenhausen, where his monumental painting of the German Peasants' War is displayed. After his death, she dedicated herself to preserving his legacy, managing his catalogue raisonné, organizing exhibitions, and founding the Tübke Foundation in his former studio, where she was present every Saturday to answer visitors' questions. The couple lived in a villa on Springerstraße in Leipzig until Tübke's death in 2004; the villa now houses the Galerie Schwind and a Leipzig art collection. A public memorial service will be held on October 30 at 1:15 PM in the West Chapel of the Leipzig Südfriedhof, where Werner Tübke is buried.
