Brendan Becht: From Chef to Collector, Art at Zazà Ramen

Brendan Becht, son of collectors Agnes and Frits Becht, runs Zazà Ramen in Milan's Via Solferino, where he hosts rotating art exhibitions. The restaurant displays works from his family's collection of over 1,500 pieces by artists like Lucio Fontana, Joseph Beuys, and Yayoi Kusama. Since 2014, Becht has organized 22 exhibitions featuring artists such as David Tremlett, Anila Rubiku, and Michele Lombardelli, collaborating with about 20 galleries. The current show, "Hues of Delicacy" by Anila Rubiku, runs until October. Rubiku's works use glass beads sewn on canvas, inspired by Milan's stained-glass windows. Becht also commissions ephemeral wall paintings that are later painted over. He describes collecting as driven by personal encounters, not trends.
