Brazil's Architecture Scene: MASP Passage, ArtRio Installations, and New Awards
On September 11, 2026, a new underground passage was inaugurated, connecting the two MASP buildings in São Paulo. This 50-meter link unites the 1968 structure designed by Lina Bo Bardi with the Pietro Maria Bardi building, which showcases Beatriz Milhazes' 98-meter artwork, Pietrolina. ArtRio 2026 is scheduled to take place from September 16 to 20 at Axia Marina da Glória, featuring the Jardim das Esculturas, curated by Christiane Laclau. Heberth Sobral's Caminho de Casa delves into themes of memory and belonging, while Gabriel Massan's seven-meter inflatable piece, Soft Power, is set in the gardens. AGENCIA TPBA and Talles Lopes were honored with the 2026 ArchDaily Next Practices Awards. Additionally, MACh Architects and Connatural designed Território-Parque in Córrego do Feijão, and Andrade Morettin Arquitetos finished the Santa Cruz School Kindergarten in São Paulo. Alan Chu's Mirante de São Jorge boasts a lookout with a diameter of 57 meters.
