Brasserie Olivia Brings French Glamour to Sloane Square

Brasserie Olivia, the first international outpost of the French brasserie group La Nouvelle Garde, has opened at 1 Sloane Square, London, in the former David Mellor cutlery showroom. The restaurant, which seats diners in a space designed by London-based B3 Designers, features checkerboard tiling, mirrors, Murano-style chandeliers, and vintage posters, aiming to capture the energy and sophistication of 1920s Riviera hotels through a contemporary lens. Co-founder Charles Perez drew inspiration from grand English seaside resorts, while B3 Designers founder Mark Bithrey emphasized the use of textiles from Pierre Frey to create a richly layered, distinctly French environment without nostalgia. The menu, overseen by head chef Rachide Sambu Baldé (formerly of Galvin La Chapelle and The Five Fields), offers brasserie classics such as gougères with Parmesan, crudités with salsa verde, brandy-marinated foie gras, bavette steak with frites, and an oyster counter with lobster tanks. The crêpe Suzette is noted as a sixth of the price of The Ritz's version, and the wine list features over 20 French wines by the glass. The restaurant is open from breakfast to post-theatre nightcap, and dogs are welcome. This opening follows other recent additions to Sloane Square, including Martino's in the old Hugo Boss site and Clare Smyth's Corenucopia on Holbein Place, with a new pub from the Walmer Castle team expected in autumn.
